Mark Alan Webber born on August 27th, 1976 in Queanbeyan, New South Wales is an outstanding Australian Formula One racer. Being the son of a motorcycle dealer named Alan; it is but natural for him to show keen interest in motorcycles and races. After racing for sometime in Australia, Webber moved to the United Kingdom and successfully participated in several races.
In 1999 racing at Le Mans, Mark Webber nearly survived two accidents during practice and warm up sessions. During a qualifying session, the #4 Mercedes-Benz CLR suddenly became airborne at the Indianapolis corner and took several somersaults in the air before finally landing straight on its wheels. Shocked Mark Webber just suffered minor bruises on his knees and elbows.
Again a day after the terrifying accident repeated itself with Mark Webber in the driving seat. As the jinxed car went over a hump off Mulsanne Straight, it catapulted itself into the air taking several somersaults and then landed overturned on its roof this time with a big thud and slid about 330 yards dragging along its driver Mark Webber and then came to a halt. The accident looked so dramatic and so cinematic, yet horrifying and shocking to those inside the ill-fated car. The engineers reported that the accidents were caused due to an aerodynamic fault and Mark Webber was lucky enough to escape twice from the jaws of death.
Undeterred Mark Webber later joined hands with a fellow Australian Paul Stoddart, the then owner of the European racing Formula 3000 team. The duo entered the F1 racings when Paul bought the Minardi team. Webber making his debut in 2002 Formula One for Minardi finished 5th. It was indeed one of the most memorable races for Mark Webber. For 2003-2004 seasons, Mark switched over to Jaguar team and showed his racing abilities qualifying several times on the first two rows of the grid. This time he moved over to the most challenging and former champion Williams team for 2005-2006 seasons. Racing brilliantly in his inimitable style at 2005 Monaco Grand Prix, Mark Webber finished 3rd on the podium, his best finish to date in Formula One racings. Mark Webber is currently racing for RedBull Racing team in the 2007 season.
Besides racing, Webber is also interested in tennis, mountaineering and other sports. He has thrice won the F1 Pro-Am tennis tournament in Barcelona.
